BillGrid vs QuickBooks

QuickBooks is accounting software that also sends invoices. BillGrid is invoicing only: estimates, time, reminders and card payments, from $8 a month.

The short answer

Choose QuickBooks if you need accounting: bank feeds, books your accountant can work in, sales tax and payroll. Choose BillGrid if you mainly need to bill clients and get paid. It's $8 a month with time tracking, projects and foreign currencies included. In QuickBooks, unlimited invoices start with Lite at $20 a month, the full Simple Start plan is $38, and time on invoices or more than one currency takes Essentials at $85.

Price and limits

QuickBooks list prices. New customers on a monthly plan get 50% off for the first three months, then pay the list price.

Which fits you

QuickBooks is the better choice if

  • you need your books, bank feeds and reports in the same place as your invoices
  • your accountant works in QuickBooks
  • you run payroll, or take bank (ACH) payments

BillGrid is the better choice if

  • you need invoicing, not accounting, and your accountant works from your reports
  • you bill time or projects, or bill in more than one currency, and don't want an $85 plan for it
  • you'd rather use your own Stripe account and pay Stripe's rate, with nothing added

Switching to BillGrid

There's no import for clients or past invoices yet, so most people add clients as they next bill them and keep their old tool for history. Expenses can be imported from a CSV file. Card payments go through your own Stripe account, which you connect in a few minutes; BillGrid adds no fee on top of Stripe's.

Both BillGrid plans are free for 30 days, with no card needed. Start free See pricing
