Your Toggl Time, Ready to Invoice

2 min read

On March 30, 2026, Toggl announced public API access for Toggl 2.0, opening its time records to other tools. BillGrid's Toggl connection uses that access to bring your completed hours into your normal invoicing workflow.

Keep planning and tracking in Toggl. Match its projects to BillGrid projects, sync the time, then choose what to invoice. The connection is for Toggl 2.0, formerly Focus, at focus.toggl.com. Classic Toggl Track uses a different API and is outside this release.

Keep Your Tracker, Use BillGrid's Rates

The connection brings in your own completed time, including its billable status. You choose the corresponding BillGrid project; its client and BillGrid billing setup determine where the work belongs and how it is priced. A missing project match waits for your decision.

Toggl rates are not copied. Toggl supports several levels of billable rates. Check your BillGrid rates before billing: the amount in Toggl is not a promise of the amount on your BillGrid invoice.

For example, two and a half billable hours at a BillGrid rate of $80 an hour produce $200 before tax or other adjustments. Review the selected time and invoice details through the existing Invoice time workflow. Syncing does not send an invoice or charge your client.

Choose When Time Arrives

The account owner connects from Settings > Toggl, using a workspace URL and API key. Choose a start date and time zone, then map the projects. Pick a start date that avoids work you already imported from a CSV or billed elsewhere.

Manual is the default. Choose a period of up to 31 days and select Sync time. Or choose Automatic for an initial check followed by checks every four hours over the most recent 30 days, starting no earlier than your chosen date. Sync time remains available when you need it.

Check Changes Before Billing

Recognized entries stay linked to the time already saved in BillGrid, so checking the same period again does not add another copy. A later change in Toggl waits for review. Compare the two records and choose whether to use the changed time or keep BillGrid's version.

Edits you made in BillGrid and time already linked to an invoice are protected. The connection does not write changes back to Toggl. Disconnecting stops future syncing and leaves saved time and invoices in place.

What This Release Covers

This is your completed time, not your team's timesheets, future plans or running timers. Toggl notes are not copied to your timesheet or invoice; add the client-facing description yourself. Nonbillable time stays nonbillable, and missing billability waits for attention.

The whole tracked duration goes on its start date in the connection's time zone, including overnight work, subject to BillGrid's daily limit. Sync details remain available for 30 days; a compact history remains afterward. The Toggl time-sync guide explains limits and recovery.
